Cycling, also called bicycling or biking, is the use of bicycles for transport, recreation, or for sport.[1] Persons engaged in cycling are cyclists[2] or bicyclists.[3] Apart from ordinary two-wheeled bicycles, cycling also includes riding unicycles, tricycles, quadracycles, and other similar human-powered vehicles (HPVs).
Bicycles were introduced in the 19th century and now number about one billion worldwide.[4] They are the principal means of transportation in many regions.
Cycling is an extremely efficient mode of transportation[5] optimal for short to moderate distances. Bicycles provide numerous benefits compared to motor vehicles, including exercise, an alternative to the use of fossil fuels, no air or noise pollution, much reduced traffic congestion and likelihood of causing a fatality, easier parking, greater maneuverability, and access to both roads and paths. The advantages are at less financial cost to the user as well as society (negligible damage to roads, and less pavement required).[6] Criticisms and disadvantages of cycling include reduced protection in crashes, particularly with motor vehicles,[7] longer travel time (except in densely populated areas), vulnerability to weather conditions, difficulty in transporting passengers, and the skill and fitness required.

I've been wanting a bicycle for months. Since Sam & I started our new diet regimen, I've been wanting something that will help me exercise. I learned some time ago that the best way to get me to exercise is to make it part of my way of getting around. In Austin I could walk to pretty much anywhere or walk to a bus stop to get anywhere else, but Denton is considerably more spread out, hence the bike.

I didn't want to spend a lot of money and so I'd been trying to find a used bike and on Thursday (3 days ago) found a pretty nice one on CL from a guy in the next little town over. I was so excited and had been using it for trips to the grocery store and to the library but I hadn't had a chance to get a chain for it and honestly since this particular bike is about as common as a Huffy, I didn't think anyone would care enough to steal it from my front porch. I was of course completely wrong.
